In my opinion, health is more important than body symmetry. However, a healthy body will have certain characteristics such as strength, joint and circulatory performance, endurance, muscle tone, adequate body mass index, flexibility, plus a balanced and healthy blood content.
A healthy body isn’t only external characteristics. It is important to be healthy on the inside as well. A muscular body on the outside while the inside may have an enlarged heart, malfunctioning kidneys and liver isn’t ideal. Many unnatural bodybuilders have died because of that.
While most of us aren’t endowed by Nature and genetics with model-like bodies, and our bodies naturally change as we become older, we can certainly be grateful for the bodies we do have and treat ourselves well, nurturing a positive self-image and making aesthetic and healthy improvements where needed not only to feel good but also for longevity.
Even a so-called “perfect body” will eventually age. So maintenance is very important. The older you get, the more you need to maintain your body. Do not wait until you experience a health scare or event before taking positive action. The doctor’s office shouldn’t be the place where you make a decision to change certain eating habits and lifestyles. Do it before you have to see your physician!
